Sacramento County deputies are examining a gun violence incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park as law enforcement were shutting down an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement initially got calls about the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 Saturday evening after learning of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Following that, a second call came in regarding a possible physical fight taking place at the location.
A law enforcement helicopter was sent to survey the area but reported no active disturbance. Despite this, deputies found that several hundred individuals had assembled at the park without authorization.
When the Shots Rang Out
Law enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems directing attendees to leave immediately. Nearly 15 minutes were allowed for individuals to vacate.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The rapid succession of shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began locating gunshot victims.
Four Victims Hospitalized
In total, four victims were discovered with shooting injuries. Those injured — made up of one woman and three men all believed to be in their early to late twenties — were rushed to local Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff indicated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. As of last report, all four were expected to survive.
Metro Fire Sacramento also responded and helped care for the four victims before they were taken to the hospital.
The Investigation
The primary shooting scene appears to have unfolded adjacent to Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators located extra shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Ballistic damage were identified in the iron perimeter fence alongside the Home Depot store. This evidence confirmed that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was placed on lockdown during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives continued working well into the night.
Suspect Information
Intelligence received over police scanner frequencies indicated that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been detained in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Law enforcement units were traveling to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for further questioning. Surveillance footage made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
